This was the castle of Masamune Date, chief vassal of the Katakura family. At the time, it was forbidden for anyone but the feudal lord to build a castle, and the exception of Shiroishijo Castle demonstrates the influence of the Katakura family. The present building is a reconstruction based on historical data and using the building methods of the day. It is considered unlikely that the materials and the craftsmen necessary to create this type of building will come together again in the future.
